The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is a $700 million worldwide program to educate and develop future leaders who will apply their acquired skills immensely to social and economic progress of their countries.

The sole aim of the MasterCard Foundation Scholars program is to educate and develop bright, as well as economically marginalised young people around the world, with special interest in Africa and developing countries who demonstrate a topnotch “give-back” blueprint and who will contribute immensely to the advancement of the continent and the world in general.

These scholarships will transition young people from beneficiaries to benefactors. It will also prepare them with the requisite values, knowledge, and leadership skills to fuel both economic and social progress across African states.

MasterCard Scholarship Program is anticipated to benefit 15,000 young people within 8 to 10 years. The following US universities are partnering with MasterCard Foundation to offer scholarships for international students, especially from Africa and developing countries.

MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Wellesley College

Wellesley College in Massachusetts, USA is a private women's liberal arts college.

As part of the Scholars Program, Wellesley College, US will provide nine (9) African women with full support that includes scholarship funding, mentoring program, counseling sessions, and internship opportunities for undergraduate studies. 

Scholars at Wellesley will develop experiences, values, and know-how that are paramount to success in the global economic space. This will enable them give back to their communities and home countries. The students will arrive in groups of 3 (three) students each year for this Scholarship program.

MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Stanford University

The MasterCard Foundation study initiative at Stanford University will enable twenty (20) academically sound but economically unstable students from African countries to undergo university studies. More so, the beneficiaries will have an opportunity to develop their leadership quality and capacity to contribute positively to their communities. The Scholars Program will support five (5) undergraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa every year.

MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Arizona State University (ASU)

Arizona State University (ASU) is in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation to ensure that talented and high performing students continue their academic pursuit irrespective of their difficult financial realities. 

The first Phase of this scholarship program offered 120 African students an opportunity to complete their undergraduate studies. Currently, the education initiative is in its second Phase with a special aim of fortifying Institutional Linkages.  The initiative is presently in its 8th cohort of 59 students from 7 African countries.

ASU will receive a total of $27.5 million over the next seven years to provide talented, yet non-financially viable students from Africa, who are determined at giving back to their communities, with access to standard and world class education.

MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at Michigan State University (MSU)

The MasterCard Foundation is in partnered with Michigan State University to provide international students with fully funded scholarships for undergraduate and post-graduate studies. For this scholarship program, the university will receive $45 million in funding from the MasterCard foundation to assist 185 scholars throughout the 9 year program period. This will cover fully for 100 four-year undergraduates and 85 master’s degree students.

Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The Fulbright international Student Program enables graduate students, young professionals and artists from around the world to study and conduct research in US. The Fulbright scholarship Program operations cut across more than 160 countries worldwide. Approximately 4,000 international students are beneficiaries of this Fulbright scholarships every year.

Fulbright Scholarship Program is administered by binational Fulbright Commissions/Foundations or U.S. Embassies. The scholarship program offer scholarships for 26 Participating Programs at universities in US, Europe, Africa, Oceania and Japan in key areas of development, including economic policy management, tax policy, economics, health, education, agriculture, environment, natural resource management and infrastructure management.

The Hubert H. Qualified applicants are women from developing countries currently enrolled at accredited universities in the US or Canada.

AAUW International Fellowship for Women

American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are Non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Applicants of this grant must have obtained an equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree by September 30 of the previous year. Also, the candidate must have applied to their proposed schools of study by the time of the application.

The scholarship is worth $20,000 for Masters, 25,000 for PhD and $50,000 for Postdoctoral students.
